Literally…Summer SportsFest 2013 kickoff, registration is open!

Welcome to the 3rd iteration of SportsFest.

Want to know what SportsFest is? Best show up to learn about it but if I had to answer with words, I’d say this. CrossFit 26 SportsFest is a St. Louis area co-ed sports league providing a way for local CrossFit athletes to compete against each other in something besides fitness.

Events this year include Kickball, Sand Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Touch Rugby, Futbol (Soccer), Floor Hockey and the always Epic Mystery Finale. Yes, it’s epic bro! Check the schedule to see the full list of dates and events.

Socials occur sometimes during and definitely after each event.

Registration is open and the first event starts soon. Details about cost are available on the Sign Up page.

Date and Time: Saturday May 18th @ 12 pm.

Location: Forest Park (exact location soon)

Sport: Golden Ticket Kickball

What is kickball? Kickball is a popular playground sport and is typically played among young, school-age children and some elite CrossFitters. The lack of both specialized equipment and highly skill-based positions (like pitcher) makes the game an accessible introduction to other sports. I wouldn’t be surprised if the most elite CrossFit athlete strikes out because somehow in his skill based work he/she forgot to work on kicking, that’s right kicking…not kipping!

Watch the video below to see Rich Froning (CrossFit Games Champion) as a child attempting to kick a ball.

Why call it Golden Ticket? So many of you are asking and it’s just going to have to remain a mystery. #illnevertell

You need to play more people!

Random CrossFitter: What on earth is SportsFest?
Brett: Uh, dude we play real sports.
Ryan: Yeah, learn about it!
Random CrossFitter: I’ll do burpees against others in a race to see who is more elite. Real sports are lame.

WinterFest Fashion Show

No it’s not the ultra secret mystery finale! Although honestly who doesn’t enjoy a good fashion show.

We have t-shirts available for sale. It’s a simple design with just the logo but if you would like to represent your gym or whatever rock you crawled out from under, let us know and we can add your logo to the shirt with great ease. Same super soft tri-blend material as last year.

To purchase, just use this link.

Is WinterFest good for your libido?

Announcing the 2013 CrossFit 26 Winter SportsFest! Starting Jan. 12 with Bowling and Bar Games!

A quick Google search for “WinterFest and Libido” netted some not so positive results. Another Google Search for “Winter sports and Libido” did somewhat better. At least the titles in those articles were a bit more invigorating. Finally I tried “Exercise and Libido” and bingo! Our suspicions were correct. There is a positive correlation between more physical activity and sex drive.

So what does this have to do with Winter SportsFest or the more commonly referred to WinterFest? Absolutely nothing. It got your attention and hence you’ve been suckered by our crafty internet marketing plot!

Today we are announcing the CrossFit 26 Winter SportsFest co-ed sports league. Same SportsFest but winterized. It will be a bit shorter but much grander in awesomeness and fun. What is WinterFest? Well it’s a St. Louis Metro area co-ed sports league bringing together local CrossFit athletes to compete against each other in something besides fitness!

Sign ups are individual. You could have 2 people from your affiliate gym or 10; it doesn’t matter. We will make teams as best we can for each event. When appropriate we can do some full affiliate team head to head action but in most cases we will just mash-up some teams and play. Online registration coming soon.

We will work with your affiliate gym to get a logo to put on the shirt so you can represent your home gym at WinterFest.

Phase V: The SportsFest Strikes Back!

As Brett trains with Master Mike to become a Most Valuable Player, his friends evade the Imperial fleet under the command of Darth Ryan who is obsessed with turning Markwort to the Dark Side….Will Brett Markwort manage to rescue his friends from the Dark Lord?

What could Master Ryan be eluding too? What plans has he been cooking up for months? Could Brett be devising some sort of devious finale celebration as well? Will Princesses Jennifer and Rachel of the 26 Republic survive? Will Special KK be able dodge a ball aimed for her head and avoid her fourth SportsFest related concussion?…stay tuned!

Enough of that, the CrossFit 26 SportsFest finale is here! Here are the details.

Where: Ballpark Village Softball field just north of Busch Stadium. As shown in the picture below.

Date & Time: Saturday August 4th from 3 – 5 PM Central Time

Things to know: No beverages or food minus ‘personal stuff’ will be allowed. AB will be having a tailgate on the parking lot next to Ball Park Village and so we may have some spectators and they will be selling beer for $5.25.

Also it looks as if the Cardinals vs Brewers start time was pushed back to 7:15 pm for TV reasons (I heard it on the radio this morning). So looks like we will have some downtime to party it up after softball. Remember to let Brett (brett@crossfit26.com) know you are interested in a ticket to the game.

Rules:

  • We will split all players into two teams with the intention of fielding 10 players in the field per inning. 4 outfielders, 4 infielders, a pitcher and a catcher.
  • 6 inning games with As Many Games As Possible….a 2 hour AMGAP!
  • We will be playing 16in softball (12in is the normal slow pitch standard). Women will be allowed to use gloves, men cannot.
  • 3 outs per side. A foul ball on the third strike is an out. Count will start at 1-1.
  • Batting order must alternate between male and female batters if possible. We will also try to keep even numbers of men and women in the field.
  • As usual we may make up some rules as we go to ensure fair and fun play!

Play ball!
